After surviving the onslaught of floodwaters over the weekend, residents in several locations in Hulu Langat are in dire need of water to clean their belongings and damaged houses.
Zuraidah Nordin, 68, from Kampung Batu 16 Dusun Tua, in appealing for water and electricity to be restored as soon as possible, said many were struggling to recover from the floods.
“We have been waiting for water supply for three days now. The water pump we have for emergencies to collect water from the nearby river is of no use since there is no electricity.
“My children happened to be around for the school holidays, but they will have to return to work soon; my husband and I will not be able to clean up the house by ourselves.
Many other residents were seen cleaning their houses during checks by the NST as were two residential areas, namely, Taman Sri Nanding and Kampung Sungai Serai.
At the community hall located a few hundred metres away, staff from the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) were busy clearing muddy waters and debris in preparing the place as a temporary shelter. MPKj personnel were aided by their colleagues from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.
Another resident, only known as Faizal, said many victims had sought shelter at nearby surau, but there was limited space and food.
“We didn’t know where else to go. We are scattered around and sleep in any place available. We have yet to clean our houses.
“The opening of a relief centre nearby would be greatly appreciated as it would be easy for people to come and get help,” he said. – NST ONLINE/PIC BACALAHMALAYSIA.MY
