The Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) has launched eSaham MITI 2.0, a new online system to streamline the allocation of shares in initial public offerings (IPOs) to Bumiputera investors.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, said the system would replace the existing manual process for managing the allocation of 12.5 per cent of shares in IPOs to eligible Bumiputera investors.
He said the new system was designed to make the process more transparent and efficient by allowing companies and investors to register and manage their applications online.
“Previously, this policy had been in place for a long time, but the process was carried out manually. With this new system, there is no longer any need for manual processing,” he told reporters after launching the new portal at the ministry’s booth during the Umno General Assembly here 10 August 2026.
Johari said the system would also prevent applicants from jumping the queue or altering information after it had been submitted.
“No one can jump the queue, no one can change any information that has been submitted, and everyone will know exactly how many shares they receive,” he said.
Johari said applicants would no longer need to visit the ministry in person and could instead register and manage their applications through the portal.
He said about 79,000 entities and individuals were currently registered with the ministry under the existing system, including foundations, cooperatives, Bumiputera companies and individual Bumiputera investors.
“These include foundations, cooperatives, companies categorised as Bumiputera and Bumiputera individuals who apply for IPOs,” he said.
Johari said eSaham MITI 2.0 would be launched and made accessible to the public on Sept 18. – NST ONLINE
