Anwar: KL Structure Plan Postponed To Ensure Adherence To Unity Govt, Madani Policies

The postponement of the gazetting of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan was to ensure that all its vision, goals and policies are in line with the policy of the unity and Madani government.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the unity government has been stressing the need for sustainable development, where it should be inclusive for all.

“When we decided to postpone it, many big towkays (the bosses) were unhappy with it.

“The reason why we decided to postpone it was to ensure the approval given is according to our policy.

“If you want to do big projects worth billions, please go ahead. However, at the same time, you must ensure some projects will help the low-income group.

Present was his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also a Lembah Pantai member of parliament.

Anwar said he hoped that the people will understand, why he took such stern action.

“There were people who questioned; ‘Don’t tell me we have to nab those who corrupt weekly?’.

“I told them that it is not my duty to do so. My duty is to empower the enforcement bodies such as the Inland Revenue Board, the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to carry out their duties without being disturbed.

“There is no point arresting an officer who took a bribe of RM100 by the roadside, while ‘orang besar’ took millions to get away with it.

“I told the MACC to focus on cleaning up ‘the top (atas)’ as a lesson so that the people know that whoever will take over (the government) after me (as the prime minister) and the team (the current cabinet) will remember, that no one will get away with it (corruption).”

Meanwhile, at the event, Anwar handed cash of RM200 each to 300 underprivileged in the constituency.

This year, a total of 3,300 underprivileged in 11 parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur, received the aid.
