Six People, Including Civil Servants, Detained By MACC

Six individuals, of whom five are civil servants attached to a department here, have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last night.

A source said the civil servants had through a middleman, solicited RM20,000 as an inducement against taking action against a person, who allegedly had hoarded 100 boxes of cooking oil to be smuggled overseas.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 50, were arrested at 10pm last night after receiving RM5,000, which was a part from the total amount of solicited bribe.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy when contacted confirmed the arrest and said the case would be investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

All of the suspects had been brought to the Tawau Sessions Court for a six-day remand application. – NST ONLINE
