Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has won the third place in SiswaSAT Malaysia Competition 2020 organised by the Malaysian Space Agency, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation from March 9 to Oct 16.
UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Raha Abdul Rahim in an on-line announcement on Oct 23 said, six students from the Electronics and Computer Engineering Faculty (FKEKK) brought home cash prize worth RM3,000 and a certificate of participation.
“This achievement shows that UTeM has continued to enliven the research and innovation culture at the grassroots level and this has also proven that our lecturers and students have applied their knowledge and expertise at the national level.
“I hope UTeM members will continue to stand out in the research and innovation arena, not only at the national level but also in the eyes of the world, thus creating an impact on the global community,” she said in a statement here, tonight.
She said UTeM’s ‘Tuah FKEKK’ team also won the Best Teamwork Award to receive RM500 and a certificate.
Meanwhile, lecturer cum supervisor for Tuah FKEKK, Siti Aisyah Anas in the same statement said the team had endured challenges for eight months to develop ‘TuahSAT’, a nanosatellite model with real operation system used in outer space
“The experiences gained in this competition were invaluable for UTeM students because it not only tested their technical expertise, they were also evaluated in terms of preparing a detailed research presentation document,” she added.
A total of 22 higher education institutions nationwide took part in the SiswaSAT Malaysia Competition which was held online, while the SiswaSAT Mission demonstration and final presentation took place at the Space Technology Complex in Banting from Oct 12.
Universiti Tenaga Nasional’s Thorium team emerged champion of the competition while Player5_SMEC from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia won second place. — BERNAMA
