BACALAH AUTO: Selamat For All – Volvo Invites Every Malaysian Driver to Rethink Road Safety at the Selamat Driving Experience

The two-day event at Sepang International Circuit brings life-saving interventions to reality, helping everyday drivers unlearn bad habits

We often spend months agonising over the colour of our next car or debating its entertainment features, yet safety is frequently left as a quiet afterthought. Volvo Car Malaysia is determined to flip this narrative by hosting the Selamat Driving Experience from 16 to 17 May 2026.

The Selamat Driving Experience is part of a broader campaign launched by Volvo Car Malaysia in January 2026 to re-engage Malaysians with Volvo’s core value: safety. At its core, the Selamat campaign reframes safety as a shared responsibility rather than a basic requirement, helping people understand the real-life impact of being protected not just when things go right, but also when they go wrong.

Selamat For All

The urgency of Selamat is grounded by a sobering reality. The Department of Statistics Malaysia reported 4,428 transport-related fatalities in 2024, of which 2,574 casualties were aged between 15 and 40 years old[1]. These figures, however staggering, risk obscuring the true cost of shattered families, interrupted futures, and the emotional weight carried by survivors.

Patricia Yaw, Sales & Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, shared: “Every other day brings another coverage of road accidents, another fatality. We often take safety for granted, growing apathetic and even careless, simply because it hasn’t happened to us yet. But behind every number is a person who didn’t come home. The Selamat Driving Experience aims to transform that abstraction into something real by bringing these stories and experiences into an immersive space where the cost of quiet complacency becomes impossible to ignore.”

Through this, the Selamat Driving Experience spotlights a hard truth: some lives are changed by close calls and others are lost to preventable accidents, but those who have never faced critical split-second decisions cruise down the roads with a false sense of security and an unawareness of how quickly everything can change.

Yes, the driver is always ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle, but Volvo’s role as a pioneer in automotive safety is to help protect and care for everyone in and around a Volvo car – to help shape a safer world.

“Selamat is a shared responsibility, and ours is to advocate for people to return home safely to their loved ones,” added Yaw.

Selamat Driving Experience

The Selamat Driving Experience is one of Volvo Car Malaysia’s several initiatives to transform road safety from a mundane spec-sheet feature into a shared national culture.

Anchored by the belief of “Selamat for All”, this initiative aims to empower every driver, regardless of the badge on their car, to drive with confidence and peace of mind.

From 16 to 17 May 2026, the Sepang International Circuit’s (SIC) Driving Experience Centre will host the Selamat Driving Experience – Volvo Car Malaysia’s open invitation for all Malaysians to step out of peak hour traffic and onto the track to experience what it truly means to be protected when things go wrong.

Interested participants can register for the experience via https://volvocarmalaysia.com/selamat-driving-experience. Slots are strictly limited to 192 pax on a first-come, first-served basis, with a registration fee of RM300 for non-Volvo owners, RM150 for Volvo owners and RM100 for non-participating guests.

Each Volvo car owner will only be allowed to use their registered VIN number once. For safety reasons, given the active track environment and schedule, parents are strongly advised not to bring minors under 18 years of age to this event.

During the two-day event, participants can experience those close shaves in a safe, controlled setting, under the supervision of professionally certified driving instructors.

This is a rare chance to experience Volvo’s state-of-the-art safety features first-hand, including its latest Safe Space Technology, which leverages real-world data and artificial intelligence to predict, adapt, and prevent risks before they occur.

By demonstrating the safety features in simulated scenarios, this immersive experience transforms technical specifications on spec sheets into tangible reminders that safety decisions have real consequences and costs for everyone.
