Umno’s influence and increase in support is the real reason why there seems to be a concerted effort to make it seem that the party and leaders must be blamed for the current so called political instability.
After so many consecutive victories in by-elections and recent Sabah state election that saw the party helping take over power from Warisan, this is the reason Umno is being made to look guilty.
Every other party is free to target Umno once again, signalling their fear of Umno and that is why the tactic of blame it all on Umno is doing the rounds once again.
So they make allegations that:
- Umno leaders under trial are supporting Anwar Ibrahim to be next Prime Minister to escape prosecution. Just don’t mention Lim Guan Eng and other PH officials suspected of corruption during their shortlived administration.
- Umno is dissatisfied with PPBM or rather Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister who did not act fair in giving senior ministerial positions, forgetting the same happened during Dr Mahathir Mohamad 22 months rule under PH.
- Umno MP will take advantage of the thin majority in Parliament against Muhyiddin to derail Budget 2021, though they themselves forgot about their role in forcing Dr Mahathir to resign.
Whether Muhyiddin is toppled or not does not matter as they want Umno to be blamed as the one acting against the people’s interest in battling the pandemic when they themselves did not take Covid-19 seriously when the pandemic hit during PH in power.
In Malaysian political context, it is the Prime Minister that decide things and in this case it is not Umno or Pas and others that can force Muhyiddin to do anything that Umno and Pas wish him to do.
PPBM is a minority party during PH time and continues to be so during PN’s time so political instability has been going on since PH took over power and after losing it.
Note that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decision not in favour of emergency contained the advice for politicking to stop is meant for all politicians.
This blaming Umno game is actually expected as the party as mentioned above has won many by-elections recently including helping win the Sabah state election.
