Unofficial results show Barisan Nasional (BN) taking the Gambir state seat in the Johor polls.
Gambir was previously held by Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
At the time of writing, BN candidate Sahrihan Jani scored 6,947 votes, leaving behind PN’s Mohd Solihan Badri, Naim Jusri from Pakatan Harapan and Suraya Sulaiman of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air in the race.
Meanwhile, Johor caretaker menteri besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad has retained his Benut state seat, after tallying votes from all 54 polling streams.
Unofficial results from the BN command centre here showed that Hasni secured a comfortable vote-majority of 5,759, ahead of his closest contender from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
PKR’s menteri besar candidate and Simpang Renggam member of Parliament Dr Maszlee Malik lost in Layang-Layang, trailing behind by 3,016 votes to BN candidate Mutalib Rahim, who is a former state executive council member.
Maszlee managed 4,756 votes while Mutalib garnered 7,772. – NST ONLINE
