The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has called on graduates yet to secure a regular job to grab the opportunity offered by the agriculture sector such as organic padI farming to generate income.

Deputy Agriculture and Food Industry Minister II Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said, at present, the demands for organic rice are on the rise following the society’s growing focus on health and a healthy lifestyle.

“We see (that organic padi) farming gives a very lucrative return, with low water usage besides minimal use of padi seeds compared to the conventional agriculture method.

‘’This is an opportunity in the food supply sector itself,” he  told reporters after a visit to the Kedah Integrated Organic Agriculture Management Institute in Kampung Lintang, Belantik near here, today.

Che Abdullah said the ministry would hold talks with the Ministry of Higher Education as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports on efforts to entice the young to venture into the sector.

“We see that the agriculture sector provides immense opportunities that should be grabbed.

‘’Furthermore, the minister always say of the need to rejuvenate the sector…and we hope that highly educated people would not deem this sector as dirty, difficult and dangerous, for it has a huge potential,” he added.- BERNAMA
