BACALAH AUTO: Volvo Car Malaysia Commits to Social Innovation in the Automotive Industry

Volvo Car Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to social innovation in the automotive industry by fostering inclusivity and equality, as well as advocating equal parental leave entitlement for its workforce.

Charles Frump, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, said: “Volvo Cars has always been known for our innovative qualities. One of the key drivers of our success is the conducive environment we create for our employees for we believe that only through a diverse and inclusive workforce that we will be able to drive the best innovation and strengthen our business.”

Placing high emphasis on creating a conducive environment, Volvo Cars introduced its ‘Family Bond’ policy in 2021.

The policy grants all employees in plants and offices 24 weeks of parental leave at 80 per cent of their base pay across the world. The Policy is applicable to mothers and fathers, including adoptive parents, which can be taken at any time within their first three years of parenthood.

Speaking at the Sweden Innovation Day 2023 event, Frump added: “We want to create a culture that supports equal parenting for all genders, and the ‘Family Bond’ policy embodies those values. The policy is applicable to all Volvo employees around the globe, in all plants and offices.

“Aside from parental leaves, we also advocate for gender equality here at Volvo Car Malaysia, with us having a balanced gender ratio of male and female – 57% male and 43% female in the company.”

The Sweden Innovation Day 2023 was organised by the Embassy of Sweden in Malaysia, bringing together 16 Swedish brands in Malaysia to share their best practices, knowledge and innovations within the respective industries.

During the event, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chang Lih Kang, accompanied by Frump, have had the opportunity to drive the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric – the second luxury electric vehicle assembled locally in Malaysia. – BACALAHMALAYSIA.MY
