KAKI BEDAL: Trust, Track Record And Malay Unity Will Decide GE15

By Kaki Bedal

People say no parties will manage to get 112 seats, or more, to form the next government through the 15th general elections (GE15) in the near future.

At this point, that remains just an opinion or an educated guess despite good arguments based on the current seats each parties have.

The only point one can agree is that the Sarawak and Sabah parties will become kingmakers when time comes to pick the next government.

Latest reports saying no parties will have a majority in the coming election is not a surprise judging from another recent reports of how Datuk Seri Najib Razak got the highest support to be the next Prime Minister at 50 per cent.

In fact, the poll results put the current Prime Minister’s support at around 10 percent while Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at number four position with about nine per cent support.

Let’s not give too much of a consideration to whatever people said about who’s going to be the people’s choice to be Prime Minister or the biggest party that will win GE15, even to those polls and opinions.

My educated guess is, the rakyat knows which party or parties they will choose to form the next government during GE15.

Three factors will decide the winner – trust, track record and Malay unity.

In this, DAP will be the only party to continue to be solid as they have the Chinese support.

However,  with support from Sarawak and Sabah parties, Umno with Pas looks to be in the driving seat.

With seven by-election victories since GE14, the cooperation between the two biggest Malay parties has shown to be the best formula.

By virtue of the Prime Minister being from PPBM, for the moment, this splinter party from Umno will be in the running too but lacks trust and Malay unity factor and no doubt will showcase only their track record during the Covid-19 management as their strongest value.

The rakyat knows who among the politicians have argued well in championing the rakyat’s welfare during these tough times and it is a former Prime Minister from Umno and his party that has given the most reliable ideas and solutions to tackle the issues of the day, help by Pas consistent principles on bread and butter issues.

Here’s something for everyone to ponder.

Remember PH, remember ‘manifesto is not kitab suci.’

Remember Umno (BN), remember six decades of nation-building.

The rakyat has learned that what the country is experiencing now, especially the uncertain political landscape, is due to giving misplaced support to PH.

No need to explain further especially with this parting joke as an ending – if only we have kereta terbang to help us today.
