With roots in the 1960s, padel is widely hailed as the fastest-growing sport globally with 25 million players across 110 countries, attracting many new players since arriving on Malaysian shores with its fast, modern gameplay and focus on camaraderie as a doubles game.
Volvo Car Malaysia was an early champion of the sport last year when it held its first Koppla sporting event – a padel friendly for Volvo owners – at ASCARO Padel & Social Club, the first padel club in Malaysia.
Patricia Yaw, Head of Marketing & Public Relations at Volvo Car Malaysia shared: “We at Volvo Car Malaysia see a lot of synergy with the sport due to its focus on people, a lifestyle-driven experience and constant technological innovation.
“We’re proud to be synonymous with this growing, vibrant sport that has strong historic roots and an exciting, modern future, just like our new electric cars and fully electric ambitions.”
Daniel Liljekvist, Managing Director of Malaysia’s pioneering padel operator, ASCARO Padel and Social Club, shared: “Volvo Car Malaysia is our first court and automotive partner and today we are elevating our partnership to co-host the Volvo Padel Open.
“Partnerships like this not only help elevate the experience for our players and customers, but also allow us to stay true to our mission of championing the vibrant community and style surrounding this growing sport.”
Oliver Cheah, Director of Padelground, commented: “The Volvo Padel Open is our chance to showcase the sport and its young, vibrant lifestyle through our brand-new courts at KLGCC.
“As interest continues to grow among a new generation of socialites, trendsetters, fitness enthusiasts, and personalities on the rise, we hope to inspire more players to embrace a sport where fun and fitness converge effortlessly.”
Charl Hermus Marais, Operations Director of PadelKu, added: “As padel gains momentum as the world’s fastest-growing sport, we’re seizing the chance to elevate the game.
“Our goal is to bring the excitement of padel to Malaysia, grooming new players and upping the ante. The Volvo Padel Open is a perfect opportunity for both beginners and skilled players alike to hone their techniques and tactics through the competitive gameplay we champion.”
