Transforming Lives, One Job at a Time: FastCo Malaysia’s Inspiring Young Leaders at the Helm

FastCo Malaysia, the country’s leading tech-driven job platform, is committed to helping Malaysian employers navigate the dynamic changes in the job market.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted industries and highlighted the importance of innovation and a digital-first approach in the future of work.

FastCo Malaysia has over 1.6 million local job seekers registered and over 20,000 Malaysian brands on its digital platforms, making it a robust and reliable resource for both job seekers and employers.

FastCo Malaysia has introduced innovative solutions such as e-FastRecruit and FastGig, which assist employers with mass virtual hiring efforts and allow gig workers to choose jobs that fit their schedules and skills based on their preferred locations, companies, or scopes of work.

These solutions are designed to provide free, simple, and instant access to thousands of jobs, particularly for entry-level and non-executive employment.

The success of FastCo Malaysia can be attributed to its exceptional young leaders who have played a pivotal role in the platform’s growth. These rising stars are passionate about providing equal access to job opportunities for all Malaysians.

Their unwavering commitment to this goal has been instrumental in FastCo Malaysia’s success. Join us as we delve deeper into the inspiring story of FastCo Malaysia’s young leaders, who are making a difference in the country’s job market.

With a common  goal of providing equal access to job opportunities, these young leaders are driving innovation and growth in the industry.

Joelle Pang is a technology entrepreneur and organisation builder with over 15 years of experience, developing and scaling ideas that empower the lives of others.

Currently, as the General Manager of FastGig, a mobile platform for freelancers under FastCo, her mission is to empower gig workers and enhance their financial stability and social mobility. In these post-pandemic times, Joelle is committed to providing gig workers with credible employment opportunities. Her expertise in recruitment has been instrumental in the growth of FastCo Malaysia and cemented her position as a key industry player.

Joelle says: “With the latest data showing that Malaysia’s gig economy has grown by a whopping 22 percent in recent years, FastGig enables employers to build their contingency workforce with freelancers to support operational needs alongside their full-time employees, while also providing access to our pool of on-demand ‘giggers’ to cater to their fluctuating business needs due to seasonality.

“As for our giggers, they get unparalleled flexibility and the ability to start working and earning, without the need for nerve-wracking interviews. In today’s ever-changing market, both employers and employees are looking for fast job matches, even in sectors that were not traditionally considered to be gig work centric. The definition of gig work is evolving rapidly, and FastGig can help employers and jobseekers stay ahead of the curve.”

As the General Manager of FastJobs, Ivy Wan is an experienced Human Resource professional with over a decade of experience under her belt in several executive positions for online recruitment portals.

“Ivy’s comprehensive knowledge of the employment market in Malaysia has proven to be a valuable asset to FastCo Malaysia. However, it is Ivy’s passion for serving the low and semi-skilled workers, which make up about 70% of today’s job market in Malaysia that sets her apart.

“She is committed to ensuring that job seekers under the manual, service and semi-skilled (MSS) segment have equal access to employment opportunities that can uplift their living standards. Her dedication is commendable and a testament to her unwavering commitment to creating a more equitable and just society.

In Ivy’s own words: “Jobs like cashiers, retail assistants, riders and despatchers, F&B service crews, warehouse staff, cleaners, and daily labourers fill necessary roles but are severely marginalised due to their informal employment, short-term contracts, incomplete profiles, and lack of advancement and skill-upgrading opportunities.

We at FastJobs help this segment of job seekers by making it simple to create a profile in less than a minute. We have also simplified the job search process via WhatsApp, which makes it faster and easier to apply for positions, giving these job searchers a better chance of landing respectable employment possibilities.”

As Head of Product at FastCo Malaysia, Colin Pal brings more than a decade of product management experience in the tech and startup space with him.

His current focus is to enhance ecosystem synergies between FastCo’s main job platform, FastJobs, and the recently launched Workforce-as-a-Service platform, FastGig, to ensure their continued success and growth. Colin is a highly sought-after speaker at prestigious product conferences like Mind the Product (MTP) APAC and Product Management Festival APAC, as well as an active member of the  product community in the region.

Colin notes: “The great revolution in the industry occurred when the pandemic hit, with recruitment, job prospects, and career projection all undergoing significant changes. Technology is today, more than ever, the great equaliser, and FastCo is harnessing it to create better opportunities for manual, service, and semi-skilled jobseekers by matching the best candidates with the most fitting employer.”

Joelle, Ivy, and Colin have been critical in establishing FastCo Malaysia as a top-tier service provider for local job seekers and employers.

Their collaborative efforts and skills in entrepreneurship, operations, recruitment, and technology complement each other perfectly. With their unwavering vision and dedication, FastCo Malaysia is poised to continue innovating and enhancing the job search experience for all Malaysians, offering remarkable services that are second to none. – BACALAHMALAYSIA.MY
