Efforts to revive the country’s economy still need to be pursued even though life has started returning to normal for many Malaysians.
National Recovery Council chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin revealed that the Covid-19 pandemic has altered the country’s economic stratification.
“Based on our survey, we found that many people from the M40 income group have fallen to the B40 level during the pandemic.
“Those from the B40 group subsequently fell to hardcore poverty. The country also urgently needs interventions, such as special catch-up programmes, for school dropouts to resume learning,” he said today.
Muhyiddin, who is also Institut Masa Depan Malaysia (Masa) chairman, said this after presenting Masa Policy Development Programme (MPDP) research grants to 30 recipients from 21 higher learning institutions.
The recipients were awarded research grants worth RM10,000 for each policy summary paper that will be produced.
Introduced in September 2021, MPDP aims to provide opportunities to researchers to provide policy inputs and recommendations to assist the process of implementing national and strategic recovery and post-government plans Covid-19. – NST ONLINE
