KAKI BEDAL: Who Will Get The Blame Next?

By Kaki Bedal

The other day I saw an Instagram story revealing that it was way back in early 2000s that a mega project plan to prevent floods from threatening the people in Selangor was proposed.

But, before it was able to be approved, Selangor was taken over by a new administration which took the decision that the project is not needed.

How many times that we need to point out that plans to alleviate floods already existed and failed to take off by factors beyond our control including letting politics get in the way?

We have short memories. Blaming others have been a national pastime in Malaysia since the 80’s when it is trendy to point to Barisan Nasional as the culprit.

Even when we have progressed so much over the years there are always something to pin BN, especially UMNO, on to be at fault, including now when an UMNO leader is Prime Minister.

Even some well known media persons joined in the accusatory tone against the current Prime Minister.

My theory on why things are not able to be addressed in lightning quick manner, is simple – the present government is unstable.

It is not made up by a strong party like in the previous BN era.

When any component party in the administration can cause the government to fall, and we have had three governments in about three years, expect inconsistency in matters big and small.

People have been quick to rejoice the fall of BN after the 2018 general elections but since then it is one disaster after another.

No, do not say I’m blaming the people who voted for change.

Instead, don’t be too quick to agree with certain people who always are pointing towards UMNO or BN as the guilty party.

It’s laughable that there is person(s) who until today keep on mentioning the name of a former Prime Minister as the one to blame.

Its been more than three years and what has changed is that the former PM is now a very popular figure instead.

Care to comment the BN thumping win in Melaka?

And now with GPS even more staggering win in Sarawak.

Now, that’s what I call a real change – as some people realised that it is the former PM who has contributed more to this nation’s progress compared to those before him.

In another sense, therefore, there is always something to blame but who will get to be blamed next? – BACALAHMALAYSIA.MY/PIC REUTERS
