MACC Raids Govt Agencies, Companies Over Alleged Misappropriation Of Covid-19 Funds

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided eight government agencies and nine companies for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of RM92.5billon in Covid-19 funds.

A source from MACC said the raids were conducted in various parts of the country, with Selangor and Kuala Lumpur being the focus in the investigation linked to the funds allocated during the previous Perikatan Nasional-led government.

“The eight government agencies had allegedly received a ‘huge allocation’ as part of the stimulus packages approved in 2020 and 2021, during the PN administration.

“MACC also carried out nine follow-up raids on major suppliers linked to the agencies to obtain documents relevant to the ongoing investigations,” he said.

The source said he was not able to provide much details about the case, as they are still in the preliminary stages of their investigation.

The investigations follow allegations by Hulu Langat member of parliament Sany Hamzan, made prior to the 15th General Election, that RM600 billion in Covid-19 relief funds had been misappropriated.

The actual total of funds were RM530 billion, and MACC had previously said its investigations would focus on RM92.5 billion as the remainder had not been from allocated from government coffers. – NST ONLINE
