PM: Economic Growth Proof Government Policies Work

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin believed Malaysia is on the right track towards economic recovery and achieving herd immunity against Covid-19.

This follows Bank Negara Malaysia’s announcement that the country’s GDP grew by 16.1 per cent in the second quarter of this year.

Compared to previous quarters, he said the continued recovery trend was clear evidence that the government’s policies were working, albeit in extremely challenging circumstances.

These developments were supported by the 2021 Budget, as well as the government’s stimulus and assistance packages, he said.

Also, the prime minister said the financial and capital markets showed good resilience in the same period.

“The target to fully vaccinate 50 per cent of the country’s adult population by the end of August will allow us to reopen economic and social activities more widely to drive the country’s economic recovery.

“I strongly believe, we will heal this nation together and bring back its glory,” he said in his special address today.

He said the country was also on the right track to achieve herd immunity of vaccinating at least 80 per cent of the population by October this year.

By then, he believed the Covid-19 cases would record a significant decrease and be under control.

He also paid tribute to the frontliners for their efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

“When our country has recovered from this epidemic, I believe not only can we all return to normal life, but we can together bring our country back to the pinnacle of success and glory,” he said. – NST ONLINE
