Bank Rakyat subsidiaries Rakyat Holdings Sdn Bhd and Rakyat Management Services Sdn Bhd recently paid RM662,966 and RM500,000 respectively in business zakat to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) for financial year 2019.
In April, Bank Rakyat itself handed over business zakat totalling RM2.68 million to MAIWP.
“The business zakat contribution was part of the total zakat worth RM32.99 million approved by Bank Rakyat for financial year 2019 for distribution in 2020,” the bank said in a statement today.
Wan Junaidi expressed hope the zakat contribution would ensure continued access to food for asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) amid the COVID-19 outbreak while urging Islamic institutions and the community to pay their zakat to assist poor and needy asnaf especially in these difficult times. — BERNAMA
