Anwar Urges Civil Servants To Change Their Mindset

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called upon public servants to change their mindset in the way they operate.

PUTRAJAYA, 29 Nov — Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim menyampaikan ucapan semasa hadir pada Perjumpaan Perdana Menteri Bersama Warga Jabatan Perdana Menteri (JPM) di Perdana Putra hari ini.
Turut sama, Ketua Setiausaha Negara Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali dan Peguam Negara, Tan Sri Idrus Harun.

He said this was essential, as the civil administration is a pillar of the nation, upholding its system through laws and regulations.

“Your support is not necessarily along the political line, but along the services line.

“I take note of the civil servants’ experiences. Before I decide, I will digest the information given based on the experiences of those in the ministry,” he said.

Anwar said this In his speech at the monthly gathering of 340 staff from the Prime Minister’s Department at Dataran Perdana Putra here this morning.

At the same time, Anwar also said that the civil service should be independent and professional in serving the rakyat.

“I do not intend to bring up the past, however, the changes need to be addressed from within,” he said.

Through his experience in helming the Youth and Sports, Agriculture, Education and Finance Minister portfolio’s in the past, Anwar said he would call upon his incoming cabinet colleagues to respect and listen to the public servants’ views, especially those with vast experience in their respective areas.

“Even if I make a counter-suggestion, it is only after I have finished digesting the situation (based on these civil servant’s experiences).

“This is (also) because interest, determination and intelligence are not equal to our experience,” he said.

He also assured that the public service system will be retained to uphold the well-being and dignity of the people.

“Leaders come and go, but the public servants are the backbone of the country.

“We cannot continue to allow corruption and this must be embedded at all levels to elevate the country to greater heights,” he said. – NST ONLINE/BERNAMA
